Oceana in Ghana is looking for a Senior Manager of Communications. Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation. Founded in 2001, Oceana works to rebuild abundant and biodiverse oceans by advancing science-based policies that protect marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
Oceana’s Ghana office, established in early 2026 as the organization’s first office in Africa, works alongside coastal communities to rebuild fish populations, improve nutrition, and strengthen livelihoods.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing strategic communications plans to support Oceana’s campaign objectives in Ghana, securing high-impact media placements, and building strong relationships with journalists and key stakeholders. The Senior Manager of Communications will oversee the creation of press materials, including press releases, statements, media kits, and opinion pieces, as well as monitor, analyze, and distribute media coverage to internal stakeholders. This role will also lead the management of Oceana’s digital platforms, including its website and social media channels, ensuring content is aligned with campaign goals and optimized for engagement and public mobilization.
The ideal candidate is a communications professional with a proven track record of securing strategic media placements and building strong relationships with the press. This role demands a skilled writer and editor with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. The candidate is a creative and strategic thinker with a problem-solving mindset, who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and can manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
This position is part of a growing communications function within Oceana’s Ghana office and will report to the Vice President, working closely with campaign, advocacy, legal, and science teams to ensure alignment across all communications efforts.
This is a full-time position based in Accra, Ghana. At least six years of professional experience in communications is required, including experience in the nonprofit sector. Oceana’s offices operate on a hybrid schedule. Staff are required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
