Director, Coalition for Fisheries Transparency

Oceana is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and globally minded Director for the Coalition for Fisheries Transparency (CFT) to lead an international coalition advancing transparency in fisheries governance worldwide. This role will guide the coalition’s global strategy, strengthen partnerships across civil society, and drive policy progress that improves accountability and sustainability in global fisheries management.

As Director, you will lead the Coalition for Fisheries Transparency, an international network of non-profit and civil society organizations working together to advance fisheries transparency, combat illegal fishing, and strengthen ocean governance. The coalition coordinates global advocacy efforts, supports national policy reforms, and promotes adoption of the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency. Through collaboration, information sharing, and coordinated campaigning, CFT works to elevate fisheries transparency on the global agenda and deliver meaningful change for ocean ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the coalition. You will oversee policy advocacy and communications efforts, coordinate closely with coalition partners and co-chair organizations, lead fundraising initiatives, and manage a small secretariat team supporting the coalition’s work. You will also represent the coalition with governments, international institutions, donors, and media, helping to build global momentum for stronger transparency policies and practices in fisheries governance.

The CFT Secretariat is hosted by Oceana, and the coalition works closely with its co-chair organizations: Oceana, Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), and Global Fishing Watch. The Director will collaborate closely with these partners while helping expand the coalition’s global reach and impact.

This is an internationally focused role that requires frequent international travel and engagement with partners, policymakers, and stakeholders across multiple regions. The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of experience in advocacy, campaigns, international policy, coalition building, or stakeholder engagement, with demonstrated success advancing policy change related to fisheries, ocean governance, transparency, or similar issues. Candidates should have experience working with international coalitions or multi-stakeholder initiatives, strong leadership and team management skills, and a proven ability to communicate complex policy issues to diverse audiences. Experience with fundraising, grant management, and donor engagement is also highly valued. Knowledge of global fisheries governance, transparency initiatives, or illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing is strongly preferred.

Join a passionate team of professionals dedicated to protecting marine wildlife and restoring ocean abundance worldwide. Founded in 2001, Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation. Through science-based campaigns, Oceana works to achieve measurable policy change in countries that govern a significant share of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and the 27 countries in the European Union.
