Role Summary

As the Fisheries Coordinator, you will support Ocean Wise’s engagement work with small-scale fisheries as per our federal Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) grant. This includes working with the Fisheries team to develop Fishery Sustainability Profiles for several Indigenous fisheries across Canada, as well as coordinating federal grant reporting requirements, completing data analysis, providing technical assistance, and conducting community engagement. You will provide small-scale fisheries knowledge and enable the Science team to continue delivering high quality sustainability outcomes with Indigenous fisheries partners, as per the grant requirements.

**Please note this is a part-time (25 hours per week) long-term contract running until October 14, 2027*

Who You Are

You are a detail-oriented and collaborative professional with a strong foundation in fisheries or environmental data analysis and a deep respect for Indigenous partnerships. You bring a balance of technical capability and coordination skills – comfortable working with complex datasets, supporting scientific research, and translating findings into clear, structured reporting.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Providing analytical and research support to the Fisheries Science team, including data management, discrete data analysis, literature reviews, and drafting technical content, as directed by Fisheries Scientists.
  • Supporting technical documentation for Indigenous fisheries engagement processes and providing performance data and case study inputs to Communications as required.
  • Maintaining organized records of grant activities, compiling environmental and socioeconomic data provided by the Fisheries Science team, and preparing reporting summaries and supporting materials.
  • Leading the coordination and preparation of all quarterly and annual reporting requirements under the Economic and Social Development Canada grant agreement, ensuring timely, accurate, and audit ready documentation.
  • Monitoring grant milestones, track progress against agreed deliverables, and overseeing quarterly narrative reporting

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience working with environmental or fisheries related data, including data management and synthesis.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Canadian federal grants, including coordinating reporting and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and managing complex deliverables, timelines, and budgets.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct structured data analysis under direction.
  • Strong written communication skills, including drafting technical summaries and formal reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working respectfully and professionally with Indigenous communities or partners.
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage cyclical workloads and competing priorities.

How You Will Be Measured

Success in this role is defined by the effective management of grant compliance and the provision of reliable administrative and technical support to the Fisheries Science team.

The Fisheries Coordinator is successful when:

  • All quarterly, annual, and final reports under the Economic Social Development Canada grant agreement are submitted on time and accepted without material revision.
  • Grant deliverables, milestones, and activities are accurately tracked, documented, and aligned with funding requirements.
  • Documentation is organized, complete, and audit-ready at all times.
  • The Fisheries Science team reports a measurable increase in capacity to develop Fishery Sustainability Profiles and conduct community engagement with our small-scale fishery partners.
  • Technical support tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Internal and external partners receive timely, clear, and professional documentation and reporting materials.

Overall, this role is successful when the Science team delivers high quality sustainability outcomes for the ESDC grant.

Where and How You’ll Work

This is a part-time long-term contract position running until October 14th, 2027 working 25 hours per week. The role is remote; however, the successful candidate must be based in Canada and legally eligible to work in Canada. Occasional flexibility in hours may be required to accommodate reporting deadlines or coordination with partners across time zones.

This role is primarily office based and involves working on a computer or laptop, participating in phone and video meetings, and engaging with internal and external partners through virtual platforms. The position involves extended periods of sitting, with occasional standing and light movement typical of a remote office environment. Travel is not anticipated as a regular requirement of this role.
