We need the ocean. The ocean needs us.

Role Summary

As the Ocean Wise Outreach Intern, you will support ocean and climate conservation efforts by delivering bilingual (English/French) environmental education and engaging communities in hands-on shoreline conservation across British Columbia. Through immersive, experiential programming and direct community engagement, you will help foster environmental stewardship and climate resilience while gaining practical, career-building experience in outreach, education, and conservation.

You will deliver climate-focused education both virtually and in person, including through the Ocean Wise Sea Dome, a portable planetarium that immerses participants in 360-degree ocean footage and interactive exhibits. These experiences deepen understanding of climate change, pollution, and aquatic ecosystems, and encourage meaningful individual and collective action.

You will also support Shoreline Champion events, which mobilize volunteers and partners to remove pollutants from shorelines and contribute to ecosystem restoration. Responsibilities will include event support, volunteer engagement, data collection, and impact reporting, all contributing to national efforts to reduce plastic pollution.

This position is partially funded through the Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages (YCWBOL) wage subsidy program. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
  • Not hold another full-time job (over 30 hours/week) during the YCW placement
  • Have a working knowledge of both English and French

Successful candidates may be required to complete YCWBOL-related reporting and evaluation deliverables during or following the placement.

*Please note this is a fixed-term contract position from May 1st, 2026 until September 31st, 2026*
