Role Summary
As the Seaforestation Coordinator, you will work to advance our seaforestation projects in Canada. Reporting to the Director of Seaforestation, you will provide in-house technical, logistical and administrative leadership to Ocean Wise’s Seaforestation initiative. With support from the Seaforestation Specialist, you lead in-water restoration projects, ongoing innovation of Ocean Wise’s kelp nursery at the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre (PSEC) and create partnerships with key stakeholders.

Who You Are
You are an organized and collaborative seaforestation coordinator with a strong foundation in kelp restoration and ecosystem recovery. You support projects from nursery to field by combining scientific understanding with solid project coordination and relationship-building skills. Curious and proactive, you’re motivated by contributing to high-quality, evidence-based ocean restoration work.
What You Will Be Doing
Project Management and Administration
- Support the design, planning, budgeting, and delivery of seaforestation projects, ensuring scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, efficient resource use, and timely achievement of program goals.
- Provide scientific and technical expertise to ensure projects meet Ocean Wise quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols while continuously improving outcomes.
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Ocean Wise kelp nursery, including kelp production, system troubleshooting, and infrastructure upgrades to support restoration needs.
- Support project resourcing through preparation of technical reports, proposals, and partnership agreements in collaboration with the Development team.
Partnerships and Relationships
- Support the primary project contact for BC seaforestation initiatives, maintaining and developing strong partnerships with First Nations and external collaborators.
- Provide tours for internal and external colleagues, partners, and funders
- Collaborate with Communications and Development teams to support knowledge sharing, proposal development, and funder engagement.
Strategy and Implementation
- Contribute to the elaboration and adaptation of the seaforestation strategy to maximize the biodiversity, climate and social benefits of our work.
- Apply current kelp restoration science and emerging practices to strengthen Ocean Wise’s impact.
- Design and implement restoration methodologies, including site assessments, baseline data collection, and long-term monitoring using innovative tools and software.
- As required and agreed with the Director, travel to field/project sites for relationship building, technical support and oversight, preparation of communication materials, conducting interviews and other assigned tasks.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, marine biology, oceanography, or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of experience in seaforestation or related ecosystem restoration.
- Strong knowledge of current trends in kelp ecology and restoration practices.
- Knowledge of monitoring, reporting, and verification of best practices for conservation or natural resource management projects.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and deliver work to agreed timelines
- Demonstrated experience with GIS and mapping.
- Comfortability with diving/snorkeling, currently holding or willingness to obtain diving certification if necessary.
- Ability to travel to and from our kelp nursery at the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre in West Vancouver once per week from September to March each year.
- Assets:
- Diving certifications and/or boating certifications.
- Driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Project management training.

- You demonstrate a proactive approach to advancing the field of kelp nurseries and seaforestation through knowledge growth, partnerships, and trial design/implementation.
- You build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with First Nations, government, industry, and community partners to advance seaforestation outcomes.
- You apply current kelp restoration science and emerging practices to strengthen Ocean Wise’s impact.
- You ensure scientific integrity, regulatory compliance, efficient resource use, and timely achievement of program goals.
What We Offer

- A remote working environment, with the option to work in person in our beautiful downtown Vancouver head office, when not completing on-site work.
- A base salary, $53,000 – 57,000, in line with market data for not-for-profit organizations

Where and How You’ll Work
Our typical work week is 37.5 hours. This is a hybrid position with an opportunity to work remotely when not supporting offsite work at remote project site locations along the BC coast or completing work within the kelp nursery at the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre. This position is primarily non-physical but does include exposure to variable weather conditions and associated heat stress and cold stress risks, as well as the ability to safely lift and carry loads up to 25 kgs. This role will require you to dive or snorkel to understand the health of our kelp nurseries and understand the associated risks. This role may involve some evening, weekend and overnight work.
