Liverpool FC and ORRAA Join Forces

LFC and The Red Way unite with ORRAA to help regenerate the Ocean and coastal communities
Liverpool FC and the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) have agreed to join forces to highlight the importance of a healthy Ocean, and raise awareness of the challenges facing coastal communities.
Liverpool is a city with a rich maritime history, and the Ocean has long played an important role in its economy, culture and identity. With the Ocean connecting communities across the globe, its long-term health and resilience is an issue that matters not only to the city, but also to Liverpool FC’s local and global fanbase.
The announcement comes at the start of New York Climate Week, which both organisations are attending, and brings together the worlds of sport, ocean conservation and finance, underpinned by a shared belief that global challenges require collective action.
It forms part of The Red Way, Liverpool FC’s award-winning sustainability strategy, which is committed to building a better future for people, planet and communities – and in particular helps shine a spotlight on the least funded Sustainable Development Goal, Life Below Water.
At the heart of the initiative are the people whose lives and livelihoods depend on a healthy ocean. From Liverpool to coastal communities worldwide, regenerating the Ocean means protecting homes, jobs and futures.
Rishi Jain, director of impact at Liverpool FC, said: “We’re really excited to collaborate with ORRAA on the next step of our work on ocean health and advocacy. Liverpool is obviously a port city with a longstanding connection to the Ocean and these efforts appreciate the important role that it plays in our environment, economy, culture and our history.
“It’s vital that we find new ways to engage people around the world, raise awareness and accelerate action to protect it. We are looking forward to bringing to life the plans we are developing with ORRAA and the opportunities this agreement creates to inspire positive change.”
ORRAA is the only multi-sector alliance connecting finance and insurance institutions, governments, multilateral organisations, civil society and local partners to help unlock investment in coastal and ocean resilience through Nature-based Solutions.
Planned activity will include engaging with our supporters, ocean education initiatives, research and thought leadership events, bringing together leaders from business, finance and sustainability, and exploring Nature-based Solutions.
Karen Sack, Executive Director of ORRAA, said: “Our Alliance works from beachfront to boardroom to build the investable solutions that will regenerate nature and build community resilience. We back brilliant entrepreneurs in coastal communities and work with some of the largest insurance and finance companies globally.
“We also have seen first-hand the power of football in raising awareness. Just as the Ocean unites us all, so does football. Bringing the Liverpool FC bootroom into the mix is going to bring extra focus to these stories of innovation, entrepreneurship, resilience and action.”
