Dear ORRAA Members and Friends,

Welcome to the 2026 Q1 edition of The ORRAA News!

This quarter, we have been shining a spotlight on the amazing entrepreneurs and local heroes “Leading from the Beachfront”. These are the innovators driving locally-led solutions – from finance to insurance – that strengthen coastal resilience and deliver tangible benefits to climate vulnerable coastal communities.

In January, we released our 2025 Action Report, reflecting on the highlights and impact of our collective work and setting the stage for the year ahead. At the same time, despite geopolitical headwinds and turbulence that continues around the world, we celebrated a landmark achievement: the High Seas Treaty officially entering into force – a significant win for our global Ocean and for all those who have worked for decades to bring it to life.

In February, the ORRAA Secretariat and our boards kicked off the year with an in-person team meeting in Mallorca – a rare and energising moment for our globally dispersed colleagues to add some finishing touches to our proposed 2026-2028 strategic plan, develop clear workplans for 2026, and set our sights firmly on the course ahead.

2026 got off to a whirlwind start as, from the World Economic Forum in Davos to the World Ocean Summit in Montreal, ORRAA has been championing the #BackBlue Ocean Finance Commitment on some of the world’s most influential stages.

On International Women’s Day, we spotlighted our work with the Stockholm Resilience Centre to produce a series of gender and fisheries factsheets, underscoring the critical – and often invisible – contributions of women in the fisheries sector. To date, ORRAA has supported the resilience of over 433,638 climate-vulnerable people in the Global South, nearly half of whom are women, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that number continues to soar.

We’re thrilled also to welcome six new members to the Alliance: Blue Marine Foundation, Blue Pangolin Consulting, DOEN Foundation, Sustainable Finance Coalition, Hill Dickinson, and the Walton Family Foundation. We can’t wait to welcome all our members to London in June for the third ORRAA Member Meeting during London Climate Action Week. If you haven’t already, save the date for June 24th and as space is limited, please register early to secure a place!

As always, if you have any questions, would like to catch up with the team, or have news that you would like us to share or amplify, please drop a note to Secretariat@oceanriskalliance.org or post it in the LinkedIn Member Community Group.

Onward with 2026!

Karen & the ORRAA team
