Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) is seeking an applicant to provide Linux System Support Services for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) Pacific Region (PR) in Honolulu, HI. OAI is a Virginia corporation established in 2003 that provides consulting and technical services to the U.S. government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and the private sector. We specialize in scientific program and project management, strategic planning, professional and technical services, and stakeholder engagement, supporting government contracts. We are seeking applicants for this position prospectively, which is dependent on award of contract.
Background
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Weather Service’s mission is to provide weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. As part of this mission, the NWS Pacific Region relies on Linux systems that are used by forecasters to predict the weather. NWS PR requires Information Technology (IT) support services to install, support, secure, and troubleshoot its Linux systems for its Pacific Region offices. This effort includes general assistance and support for all PR NOAA and NWS Linux systems. Management and support will include day-to-day system administration, security, troubleshooting, resolution of issues, and ensuring data processing is operational.
Duties
1. Linux systems planning and installation:
- Develop annual systems hardware, software, and license requirements.
- Provide support for Linux server and workstation infrastructure.
- Integrate all systems into NWS PR’s Microsoft Window Active Directory infrastructure
2. Linux systems administration, operation and maintenance:
- Ensure all Linux hardware and software are working properly.
- Lead enterprise Red Hat Linux configurations for NWS PR.
- Update and manage system hardware, software, and licenses.
- Upgrade systems to the latest Linux operating system (OS) version.
- Port applications to latest versions of the Linux operating system.
- Install, support, and maintain software.
- Provision and updated systems with new versions of application software.
- Decommission outdated systems and prepare systems for disposal.
- Implement and enforce Federal, Department of Commerce (DOC), NOAA, and NWS policies as directed.
- Engineer, provision, configure, deploy, integrate, and maintain Ansible for software provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment within NWS PR.
- Bridge Active Directory users to Linux systems and ensure the capability of Common Access Cards (CAC) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) logins to Linux systems.
- Perform data backup and recovery.
- Provide documentation of system changes and updates.
- Troubleshoot and repair any system failures and performance or security issues.
- Perform account administration to include, but not limited to; account creation, permission modification, and removal of accounts.
- Provision, manage, monitor, and restore network communication.
3. Linux systems information technology security administration:
- Integrate all systems into NOAA’s Enterprise Cyber Security Monitoring and Operations (ECMO) system.
- Patch systems with the latest security updates.
- Apply and maintain current Secure Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIG) configurations on all Linux computers.
- Monitor system logs for performance and security issues.
Start Date: Contingent upon award of contract.
Location: Honolulu, HI
Travel: Travel to various locations for on-site support may be required.
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary, commensurate with experience, is between $45 - $55 per hour.
Requirements
Applicants must have the following minimum requirements:
- Proficiency in applying IT security concepts, methodologies, principles, procedures and using industry-standard IT security tools.
- Proficiency in contingency planning and backup and recovery best practices.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification (or equivalent) plus 2 to 4 years’ experience as a Linux systems administrator.
- Experience in using Ansible for automation and configuration management.
- Proficiency in integrating Linux systems with Microsoft Active Directory.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively in a team/group setting.
- Ability to receive constructive feedback and implement appropriate action.
- Pass a background security check
- Be a United States citizen
- Obtain a Passport prior to starting
