JOB SUMMARY:
The duties of this position will support youth program staff, students, and administration in an on- call capacity. This person will engage in activities that are associated with the circle of wellness, improve cultural identity, and promote youth leadership roles. This person must be able to transport students or be a bus monitor and must be physically able to monitor students one-on-one during long field trips.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supporting the enrichment and recreation program offerings, including program planning and customer service.
2. Providing high quality customer service via phone, email and in-person communication.
3. Assisting with registration and confirmation processes for program registrants.
4. Assisting with the supervision of Youth Department students.
5. Assisting regular staff with advising, helping and tutoring students.
6. Participating in all activities with students.
7. Teaching students to anticipate difficult situations and deal with them.
8. Creating opportunities to provide students with positive attention.
9. Encouraging program interaction.
10. Assisting the bus driver during transportation to program and home, along with all field trips during the year.
11. Driving a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation and also at a safe speed.
12. Picking up and discharging students, under varying weather conditions, at established bus stops; reporting incidents which affect the safety of students.
13. Permitting a student to leave the bus only at a regular stop except upon written request of parents and approval of the Program Manager.
14. Managing other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to be considered for the position.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
• Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver's License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe.
• Obtain and maintain throughout employment: Certified in basic First Aid/CPR within 30 days of employment.
• Obtain and maintain other certifications and attend all departmental trainings as required e.g. Blood borne pathogens.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:
• Must possess a high school diploma
• Have experience working with children with challenging behaviors or in the role of mentor for youth.
DESIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITION:
Must be able to present information to youth in a language they understand and present data for reports to the Director in a clear concise oral or written form.
• Must have the ability to:
* Interact patiently with a diverse student population;
* Communicate clearly and tactfully with students and adults,
* Maintain confidentiality.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and throughout employment.

Must pass criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.):

Work is primarily performed both in an inside and outside environment and in a variety of weather conditions.
• Work requires climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping and repetitive motions. Extended periods of sitting.
• Frequently walking and lifting, up to 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment up to 40 pounds.
• Physically capable meeting the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties.
• Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, odors, and wet floors.
• Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
• Must be able to push/pull, kneel, and bend and smell.
• Ability to write and keyboard, occurrence is occasional.
• Must be able to read, occurrence is frequent.
• Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, feel or move objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, write occurrence is frequent.
• Exposed to season weather elements, i.e., hot, dry, cold, rain, wind occurrence is frequent;
• Handles cleaning/sterilizing agent occurrence is frequent.
• Incumbent frequently exposed to moderate noise generally and a noise level subject to outside noises, vibration, road hazards and atmospheric conditions.
• May come in contact with childhood diseases, blood and bodily fluids.
• Must be able to cope well with stress.
