JOB SUMMARY:
The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) will provide quality case management and community support services to clients with substance and or chemical dependency abuse. He/she is responsible for the delivery of effective treatment services to the assigned caseload, participation in the development and design of effective treatment and prevention activities, delivery of alcohol/drug education services to patient, family and community, and the responsibility for case management relating to counselor and patient activities.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares and maintains a confidential, accurate, organized, and updated case file for each assigned client. Perform counseling duties as assigned in the primary, intermediate care, outpatient care, and outreach or aftercare. Maintain assigned caseload.
- Assists with intake documentation as necessary (e.g., consent for treatment, consents to release information, initial assessment, etc.) and maintains this information in the case file.
- Work collaboratively with Chemical Dependency team in planning, developing, organizing, facilitating and providing counseling services in prevention, intervention, treatment, etc., for a variety of treatment groups, programs and services, and social skill development.
- Develops for a multi-dimensional individual treatment plan focused on long term recovery.
- Comply with all documentation and filing requirement, according to WAC, Agency and Funding policies.
- Coordinate and serve as liaison with courts, probation officers, and/or social service agencies, as needed for the individual client.
- Perform advocacy role at juvenile court hearing and community agencies.
- Identify and establish working relationships with federal, state, and community resources for clients.
- Perform counseling duties as assigned in the primary, intermediate care, outpatient care, and outreach or aftercare. Maintain assigned caseload.
- Identify client health needs and refer to appropriate treatment as needed.
- Identify and respond to crises that may negatively impact treatment, and where possible, use the negative events to enhance treatment efforts.
- Maintains familiarity with community resources and their limitations, the procedures for making referrals, and the confidentiality requirements inherent to the referral process so that community resources are used to benefit clients.
- Must be willing to travel to multiple service locations (Tribal and non-tribal facilities including schools).
- Participate in providing education to Tribal Programs to include tribal school, college, family services, social services and education, etc.
- Substance Use Disorder Professionals must be free of any active or prior claims and must be maintained throughout employment with the Nooksack Indian Tribe.
OTHER DUTIES:
Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to have, in order to be considered for the position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:
- Associates Degree in human services or related field and or 90 colleges credits with a minimum of 45 credits related to the chemical dependency profession specific to working with alcoholic and drug addicted individuals.
- Required to have completed 1000-2500 hours of trainee work experience
- Obtains required training hours on an annual basis
- Blood Born Parthenogens training or obtain within the first month of employment
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITION:
- Knowing and understanding the needs of chemically dependent people in general, and those in treatment, specifically.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
- Ability to relate to a variety of ages, culture, and socio-economic backgrounds, and the Native American Indian population
- Knowledge of state and federal laws relative to assigned area
- Must adhere to Federal Privacy Act and comply with Federal HIPPAA regulations
REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and throughout employment.
- Must pass criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter.
- Must have First Aid/CPR certificate
- Must provide proof of negative TB test
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must have a WA State SUDP Certification
- Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver’s License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe. (Must Provide Driving Abstract at time of hire).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.):
- Standing/walking: Occasionally-frequently, in combination with walking while performing office duties, walking is usually short distances performed throughout shift on tile, carpet or concrete.
- Sitting: Frequently-constantly, on adjustable chair at desk or assigned work area. May stand as desired.
- Lift/carry: Occasionally, 1-20 lbs.; files, paperwork, supplies. Seldom, up to 35 lbs.; boxes of records.
- Push/pull: Occasionally, using both arms/hands, required force of 5-20 lbs.; opening doors/file drawers, filing documents.
- Climbing: Seldom, stairs at some locations.
- Bending/twisting: Frequently, at waist/knees/neck to and from seated position while working at desk, filing, and records handling.
- Kneeling/crouching/crawling: Not usually required. May kneel or crouch seldom while retrieving items at floor level.
- Hands/arms: Constant use of both hands/arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while keyboarding, using phone, calculator, copier, and other office equipment, writing instructions, filing, and performing other administrative duties. Job requirements include forward and over shoulder reaching on a frequent basis.
- Keyboarding: Frequently for short intervals throughout work shift depending on specific work requirements.
- Sight: Constantly, in using computers, reading fine print, interacting with the public and coworkers; visual requirements include hand/eye coordination & visual acuity in near/mid ranges.
- Speech/hearing: Constantly, in answering telephones, communicating with customers, co-workers while giving and receiving instructions.
- Location: Work is performed indoors in a climate controlled office environment.

The following qualifications are preferred/helpful for the incumbent who has these skills/knowledge or abilities for this position.
- Knowledge of Native American Indian Culture and any Chemical Dependency problems associated with the population and therapies, treatment curriculum that assists in providing the best outcome.
- Knowledge of Chemical Dependency treatment and recovery, child/adult protective services and legal issues such as inpatient/outpatient treatment.
- Knowledge and skills in assessing substance abuse and mental health issues
