Invasive Species Program Coordinator

Position description:
This position is a full-time permanent position paid for by BIA self-governance funding. The Invasive Species Coordinator works within the Quinault Division of Natural Resources (QDNR) Environmental Protection Department in the EPA Grants Section. They work alongside professionals in air and water quality disciplines. The main responsibilities of the Invasive Species Program Coordinator are securing grant funding and implementing projects related to the control of invasive species Quinault Indian Reservation (QIR). Job responsibilities may include control of terrestrial or aquatic invasive species, depending on the needs and priorities of the Quinault Nation. A current major ongoing project is the control of knotweed along rivers and streams on the QIR. This effort requires careful planning, design of projects, grant submission and reporting per grant requirements, contract oversight, and management of seasonal field teams and logistics. This position works closely with QDNR staff to create or revise QIN regulations addressing invasive species control and assist with other Division and local community projects. They participate in the Interdisciplinary planning of timber sale and land management activities in regard to invasive species and assists with implementing best management practice for the prevention of the spread of invasive species in all departments of QDNR. A main component of this work is recommending solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of invasive species. Additionally, the Invasive Species Program Coordinator is expected to work with relevant outside agencies to protect and monitor potential threats to treaty resources within QIN’s Usual and Accustomed Area (U&A). This position may be required to present educational material to the community and leadership.
