About the role

The External Communications Manager role is pivotal in helping develop robust messages and stories and tailor these to the needs of audiences and stakeholders. Communicating through different channels and communicating in a way that recognises and support NOCs scientific independence and ensure we are relevant in the modern world is critical.

Key duties of this position will include:

  • Ensure NOC communications are consistent with the NOC Strategy
  • Manage NOC’s press office and build NOC's reputation and network with UK and international media by creating 1:1 relationships with key national journalists.
  • Manage and lead the External Communications Officer and Digital Communications Officer role. Provide day-to-day line management and coach on an ongoing basis to up-skill and support learning and development and career opportunities where possible.
  • Work closely with the Digital Communications Officer and the Creative team to develop optimal channels for communication, to ensure the communications developed are delivered to audiences and stakeholders through the best channels and mediums.
  • Support the objectives of NOC by bringing communications expertise to develop compelling external key messages aligned to NOC strategy. Once developed, guide, lead and own through the communications process/lifecycle.
  • Devise innovative, engaging and measurable communications campaigns linked to key NOC research topics and mission projects managing activities across different disciplines in the creative team such as design, web and video. ​Ensure success measures are part of ongoing campaign development, reporting on these to the wider team. To input into reports and evaluation of activities in line with the requirements of funders where required.

About you

We are looking for an excellent communicator, someone who is particularly adept at storytelling both verbally and in writing. The ability to manage the end to end communications process is essential, including concept, content creation, channel and delivery. You must be a team player and contribute to the success of the wider Engagement function.

Location

This position will be based in Southampton. The centre is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car-parking with over 40 EV charging points.
