About the role

This post is with the IT Infrastructure team, who are responsible for maintaining secure and effective systems and services. We also provide specialist second- and third-line support for virtualisation, storage, and server system administration (both Linux and Windows) to the user community.

Our IT facilities currently include a high-performance computing cluster, a parallel file system, several powerful compute servers, and a VMWare ESXi cluster.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced system administrator with a strong focus on Linux operating systems; it is essential that you are adept at using the Linux command-line interface (CLI) and have a good working knowledge of Linux (preferably CentOS/RHEL/Rocky).

You will have hands-on experience with VMWare ESXi and Windows server administration, system monitoring tools (e.g., Icinga, Nagios, Splunk, etc.), and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, etc.).

You will also have a customer-focussed approach, solid troubleshooting skills, good written and verbal communication skills, a proven ability to write technical documentation for both technical and non-technical staff, and the ability to work both independently and part of a team.

Location

This position will be based in Southampton. The centre is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car-parking.
