The School of Fisheries delivers education and training programs to students interested in entering the aquaculture, fishing, environmental and food industries. Academic Programs offered by the School range from industry certifications to diplomas of technology, joint diploma/bachelor degrees, advanced diplomas, post-graduate certificates and master's degrees.

The School of Fisheries, through its Community Based Education Delivery Unit (CBED) is charged with the responsibility of developing and delivering education and training programs required to meet the needs of the seafood harvesting and processing sectors, the agri-foods and the aquaculture industry.

CBED draws on the education and experience of instructional staff within the School of Fisheries and contractual seasonal instructors. These instructors have years of industrial experience and education in harvesting, processing, aquaculture and the marine environmental sectors.

DUTIES

The School of Fisheries is seeking a qualified instructor to deliver Fishing Master programs and other industry short courses.

The successful candidate will be required to instruct, both online and in-class the Fishing Master IV program; courses will include : Chartwork and Pilotage Level 1, Navigation Safety Level 1, Restricted Operator’s Certificate – Maritime Commercial, Ship Construction and Stability Level 1, and General Seamanship. The ability to teach SEN Limited (SEN-L) and Fishing Master III courses would be an asset. This position will also include curriculum development following Transport Canada Marine Personnel Regulations, including the creation of course manuals and workbooks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum possession of a Fishing Masters III Certificate of Competency, a diploma of technology or a university degree in a fisheries related field would be considered assets. The successful candidate will have experience with online course delivery and experience in curriculum development; an equivalent combination of education and training may be considered.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills are required. Proven leadership qualities and the ability to work with a motivated, multi-disciplinary team are also required.   This position may require travel within Newfoundland & Labrador. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset.

**SALARY:           **Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors’ Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
