Are you thinking about applying for a post within SEPA? You may be persuaded to apply when you see our terms, conditions and benefits? SEPA prides itself on the level of work life balance and flexibility it offers its staff. We believe that our terms and conditions are exceptional.

We are looking for a highly motivated person with excellent communication skills that will work well within the team. Someone who will contribute to SEPA’s marine ecological science work. The Unit has a responsibility to monitor and assess the biological health of Scotland’s marine ecosystems across the whole of Scotland with a current focus on the regulation of marine aquaculture. We need someone that can be flexible so that, depending on future business needs, they may support other areas of Marine Ecology or wider Evidence and Flooding units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participation in a range of ecological fieldwork including working aboard SEPA’s survey vessels potentially across a wide range of locations around Scotland. This could include extended periods of survey away from home/base office.
  • Collection of a range of different environmental sample types, primarily for marine seabed invertebrate and sediment characterisation.
  • Analysis of environmental samples, primarily marine seabed invertebrate and sediment, in SEPA’s laboratory at Eurocentral, North Lanarkshire.
  • Data entry of sampling and analysis results into appropriate SEPA systems.
  • Working in a team to ensure that the work is delivered on time and to the required quality.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Working to support fieldwork/data entry where appropriate/needed.
  • Working to support other colleagues where appropriate/needed.
