Job Purpose Summary:

This is a full time permanent role within NatureScot’s Sustainable Coasts & Seas (SCS) Activity. Working closely with other NatureScot staff, the post holder will lead on delivering advice to our marine energy team and other NatureScot staff on the coordination of underwater noise impacts across marine industries / activities, including but not limited to: marine energy (renewables / oil and gas), aquaculture, cables and ports and harbours. The successful post holder will engage with NatureScot case leads as well as industries, Crown Estate Scotland, Local Authorities, Port Authorities and relevant Directorates in Scottish Government. Advice will be required in terms of all phases of development activity including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulations Appraisal, as well as European Protected Species Licencing for both development and research purposes.

The post holder will analyse and provide casework advice, both formal and informal, written and verbal and be confident in advising on implications for preventing biodiversity loss and enhancing nature, particularly in respect of recognising and recording impacts from noise on the marine / estuarine environment and seeking solutions to reduce adverse impacts. The post holder will also input to the preparation of guidance and research requirements as well as leading on internal training on underwater noise and implications for biodiversity.

The post holder will also be required to contribute to the wider work of the marine energy team and both the Sustainable Coasts and Seas and Marine Ecosystem Activities, including the potential to work as a Duty Officer on a rota for responding to marine pollution incidents.
