This is an exciting opportunity to lead a unique group of engineers and scientists developing innovative solutions for the study of animals in the marine environment.In contrast to the previously advertised Head of Instrumentation role, a group restructuring and the creation of other new roles, means that this role will be focused on developing and implementing the strategy and business plan for the Group.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leading teams and facilitating the development of technological solutions to study of the marine environment. A good understanding of instrumentation technology and electronic engineering under severe constraints of size and energy is desirable. Candidates will be expected to provide leadership to the SMRU Instrumentation Group by working with staff and outside scholars and agencies to develop and use new marine animal borne technologies. The successful candidate will work with senior engineering colleagues and will manage the Group to ensure the delivery of excellence in SMRU tag design and production.

The successful candidate will have experience in programme, project and resource management, excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders coupled with strong influencing and negotiation skills and an ability to engage others.
