Ocean Job Board
Organisation Description:
The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.
Summary of Role:
The Post-Doctoral Researcher (PDR) will work closely with the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Team Lead on delivering the research for the OceanICU project. The individual will work specifically on helping to develop ecosystem modelling approaches that will enable an understanding of the implications of fishing on the role of fish in the sequestration of carbon to the seabed. This will be done in collaboration with other experts in the field in the Marine Institute, and in the project partner institutions in the UK, Denmark and France. The individual will then apply the methods to construct fishing associated carbon budgets for the shelf seas around Ireland. You will also collaborate with a second PDR on this project who will be working on Connecting OceanICU to Society
