The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Temporary Scientific & Technical Officer (STO) will work closely with the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Principal Investigator on delivering the research for the GES4SEAS project. This will involve collating and managing existing data on human activities, pressures and the state of the ecosystem preparatory for the analysis work. The bulk of the work will then involve applying the approaches and methodologies developed by the project consortium, and applying them in the Celtic Sea to create a Cumulative Impact Assessment. Subsequently, the STO will help draft reports and publications from this and to formulate the type of advice the research could provide to policy makers, managers and stakeholders.
