Organisation Description:
The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.
Summary of the Role:
The job will focus on management of the FEAS laboratory analysts ensuring full compliance with all relevant Marine Institute work programmes, policies and procedures. It will include the implementation of the EUMAP port sampling programme and working closely with Team leads in the coordination of sampling & surveys to ensure targets are met. It will also include administration and procurement relating to use of contractors for research survey support and at sea sampling programme.

Educational and Professional Requirements:
• A minimum of a third level qualification in a relevant scientific area
• A minimum of three years of post-qualification relevant work experience, to include demonstrated relevant experience in leading a team.
• Proven ability to manage people, projects and budgets.
• Proven experience in procurement, tendering and contracts management.
• Demonstrated planning and organising skills and managing time effectively to ensure the delivery of projects to tight deadlines.
• A sound understanding and appreciation of Health and Safety best practices in a laboratory and understanding of risk assessment in a laboratory context.
• Good knowledge of analytical, data, project management and other software packages that may be of relevance.
• High level of proficiency in the use of standard Microsoft Office software packages.
• Effective numerical and proven scientific and technical report writing skills.
• Effective Communication Skills both written and verbal.
• Solutions-oriented with excellent initiative and problem-solving ability.
• Willingness to work at sea on board research vessels and sufficiently fit to pass an ENG II/ Seafarers medical.
