We are a group of dedicated marine biologists and educators who have been brought together based on our shared appreciation and respect for marine ecosystems. Working on the incredibly diverse waters of Northern Vancouver Island, we recognized the need to better understand the environment that we call home. The need to understand and protect this ecosystem inspired us to begin a variety of wide-ranging marine research projects. Subjects include everything from humpback and minke whales, to birds and invertebrates. In recent years, our research and experience has expanded to include work in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Sea of Cortez, and Antarctica. The Marine Education and Research Society was formed as a way to bring together our existing projects. These include a study on the humpback whales of Northern Vancouver Island dating back to 2004, and a project dedicated to understanding the minke whale population of British Columbia. Each of our Directors brings unique marine research and education experience to our Society, and as a group, we make up a very passionate and dedicated bunch. Click here for Bios of our Directors.
