REPORTS TO: Director of Marine Resources
JOB SUMMARY: Under the Director of Marine Resources will work independently and as part of a team to collect marine salt and fresh water specimens for research and related duties care and shipping of organisms.
MAJOR DUTIES:
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of basic outboard engine mechanics. Knowledge of collecting gear and collecting technique. Ability to operate safely outboard boats and pickup trucks with trailers. Must have valid Massachusetts driver's license, with a favorable driving record. Must have and maintain current Advanced First Aid Certification/CPR. Demonstrated knowledge and interest in Marine Zoology.
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school education with knowledge as a marine biologist and/or marine naturalist. Four years and 100 hours of diving experience preferred. Knowledge of fishing techniques and the various species of marine life found in the Northeast. Must have current open water scuba certification and experience in scuba diving. Must have current American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) certification or ability to qualify for such certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The working environment for this position requires the ability to work in a variety of extreme environmental conditions as necessary; carry and lift loads up to 100 lbs. while traversing uneven terrain; reach and lift heavy items above head; ability to stand for long periods of time on pitching work platforms (boats/docks). [100 lbs. is two full clam buckets each weighing 50 lbs. over the marshland, some distance. Other weights include 120# full nets over side of boat, usually a two person job. Bag of clams weighs approx. 50 lbs.
