Position Summary:

The Echeverri lab is seeking a motivated individual to join the lab as a Research Assistant I. The successful candidate will work on the molecular mechanisms of regeneration in axolotls. The position will be a mixture of assisting on research projects in the lab and primary animal care person for axolotls. Duties will include daily animal care, feeding, husbandry and maintenance of aquatic systems. Additionally, the person will be involved in the research projects in the lab involving axolotl limb and spinal cord regeneration and will have responsibility for general lab maintenance and organization and lab ordering tasks. The position is for one year and can be extended depending on availability of funding and performance.

Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Science is required. Experience in aquatic animal care and husbandry is preferred. Previous lab experience with molecular biology and microscopy is preferred. This position requires an independent, organized, and self-motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask.

Working occasional weekends, occasional holidays, and on-call emergency response is a requirement of this five-day-a week position.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.Sc. in biology or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Minimal exposure to biohazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 lbs).
