Position Summary:

The Morgan lab seeks a highly motivated individual to join The Eugene Bell Center for Regenerative Biology and Tissue Engineering as a Research Assistant I or II, depending on prior experience. The successful candidate will work on the neurobiology of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, as well as provide some general lab support.

Major responsibilities include: performing light and electron microscopy; basic electrophysiology; general lab management; and leading a research project or assisting the PI and other lab personnel with experiments, depending on experience level. Other tasks include performing basic biochemistry; performing data analysis, lab maintenance, and minor administrative tasks. Position will be for 1 year, but may be extended beyond this period contingent upon funding.

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A.), as well as coursework in the biological or physical sciences in subject areas such as Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, Physics, or other related topics. Must have strong analytical and computer skills. Must know standard laboratory practices and be familiar with general laboratory equipment. Must be able to work independently. Additionally, 2+ years of relevant research experience and/or a Master’s degree is required for the RAII position.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience with microdissections, imaging and image analysis (light or electron microscopy), statistics, coding, or some combination. Prior experience working with fish or other aquatic species is also desirable. Direct experience with neuroscience research, especially synapse biology, would be a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Minimal exposure to biohazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 pounds).
