Senior Mechanical Engineer
Overview of Role:
Liquid Robotics is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the development of autonomous ocean robots and the associated hardware and accessories. By joining our small but highly-motivated team, you will be helping us achieve this goal by participating in mechanical engineering design activities and working with cross functional teams to deliver world-changing products. The successful candidate will bring significant mechanical design, project management, and product life-cycle experience to the role, will be motivated by our vision to change the world, and will be excited to work in a dynamic, small-company environment. This role reports directly to our Mechanical Engineering Manager. This position is based in the Potomac Region.
Responsibilities:
- Work with entire organization to establish, maintain, encourage, and enforce common design practices, standards, and policies in the Mechanical Design and Analysis discipline
- Interface with counterparts in systems, electrical, operations and software groups to insure alignment on new and current project deliverables
- Provide oversight for change control and incident escalation processes
- Support the creation of hardware specifications based on user requirements
- Develop relevant prototypes to support early validation of product architectures and design solutions.
- Participate in product and solution design concept reviews
- Review and approve designs and drawings against: general standards, design requirements, geometric tolerances, drafting practices and the applicable manufacturing process
- Support methodical root cause analysis and resolve non-compliance in part performance
- Maintain and improve Mechanical Engineering tools, design processes, and methodologies
- Support the capital procurement process by recommending tools, equipment, and facilities, needed to support the organization
Desired Experience:
- 10+ years mechanical design experience, preferably in marine systems or the defense industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, master’s degree is a plus
- Proven ability to manage a wide range of concurrent projects and tasks
- Experience in a small company environment including the ability to respond to changing priorities
- Proven presentation and communication skills across all levels including senior management
- Expert user of 3-D CAD, particularly Solidworks, and PDM tools to manage design databases. Model simulation experience desirable.
- Familiarity with PLM and other product life-cycle tools such as Arena, JIRA, and Confluence
- Ability to manage creative and cost effective electro-mechanical designs and systems (motors, controls, sensors, robotics)
- Expert knowledge of varied manufacturing and assembly processes such as composite construction, CNC machining, injection molding and sheet metal fabrication
- Experience supporting internal and external fabricators, assemblers, vendors and partners with new and existing design and procedural needs.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and ISO standards, GD&T and accepted drafting practices
- Willingness to travel to test sites when needed up to 15%
U.S. Person status required.
Ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance required. Preference given to candidates with active security clearance at time of hire.
Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $112,000 - 199,000
