Liquid Robotics is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in the development of autonomous ocean robots and the associated hardware and accessories. As part of our small but highly-motivated team, you will participate in electrical engineering design activities and work with cross functional teams to deliver world-changing products. This position will be responsible for executing electrical Hardware designs, firmware development, and system designs for various subsystems incorporated into an autonomous ocean-going craft. Designs include navigation subsystems, motor controllers, MEMS sensors, satellite/LOS communications, power systems (including solar power generation), embedded computers, etc. This position is based in Herndon, Virginia and reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
Essential Responsibilities
- Help define the overall electrical architecture for a next generation Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV)
- Define, design, document, test, and production release PCBA-level solutions. This includes:
- Schematic Entry
- Component selection
- Component Library Management
- PCB Layout
- Documentation release
- Linking Native ECAD and MCAD Design Components
- Hands on testing and integration – in the lab and in the field opportunities
- Work with Software and Firmware engineers to define requirements and interfaces.
- Perform design and architecture trade studies
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Contract Manufacturer(s) to successfully release designs into production
- Prepare and release production documentation
- Work with other team members to learn about the operation of the overall product
- Mentor less experienced electrical engineers

Minimum Qualifications:
- BSEE or equivalent. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of direct experience designing PCBA’s
- Direct experience working with embedded computers
- Experience using standard electronics lab test equipment
- Experience with Visio or Drawio.
- Strong experience designing in Altium.
- Experience with Arena (PLM); integration of Altium with Arena skill is a plus.
- Experience interfacing with sensors and systems using industry standard protocols such as RS232, UART, CAN, I2C, SPI
- Experience design switching power supplies.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- FPGA, Verilog, VHDL Design skills a plus
U.S. Person status required.
Ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance required.
Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $106,000-189,000
