General areas of responsibility

You are directly under the responsibility of the Scientific Director and work in coordination with the other Deputy Scientific Directors. Within the strategic framework of the Institute, your field of activity focuses on:

  • The interface between the Scientific Direction (DS) and the scientific and technological departments, in particular within the framework of Physical Oceanography, Engineering Sciences and data activities and national infrastructures managed by the institute
  • The interface between the SD and the Partnership and Transfer for Innovation Department, in particular the management of certain objectives included in the objectives, means and performance contract (COMP)
  • The interface with the Brittany Center Management, particularly for partnership relationship and site policy (IsBlue...).

Within the Scientific Directorate, you also interact with the assistant, the project managers and thematic referents. Through your mandates, you are required to work with the directors of scientific departments and the various functional departments.

Direct relationships with the Ifremer Center headquarters

As the representative of Ifremer at the regional and local level, the management of the Brittany Center contributes to the definition and supports the deployment in Brittany of the Institute's policy in terms of academic and economic partnerships. In this context, the Ifremer Center manages relationships with all regionally established partners and leads this mission in cooperation with the national executive management, scientific directorate and other departments. As such, you work in collaboration with Brittany Center Management for information sharing and consistency of their respective actions.

Main missions

  • Guarantee, in the positioning and exchanges of the SD externally, consistency with Ifremer's strategy (institute project, strategic plan – contract of objectives, means and performance).
  • Contribute to building partnership links between Ifremer and all research organizations (universities, engineering schools, etc.) at the national and European, or even international, scales in the oceanographic field.
  • Participate directly in the site policy of the Brittany Center, and in particular the development of partnership projects with Universities and Engineering Schools in collaboration with the Brittany Center Management.
  • Contribute to strengthening interactions and cross-functionality between the different research teams, particularly on the Brest platform.

Activités principales

  • Contribution to the construction of Ifremer's scientific and partnership strategy: works around the development and implementation of the COMP, the implementation of the strategic plan and the Ifremer strategy
  • SD representation in various scientific bodies involving Ifremer in regional programs linked to the management of the Brittany Center, national, European and international
  • Management or co-management of actions and projects monitored by the Scientific Department: e.g., phD committees, postdocs, et and co-animation of working groups driven by the SD (seminars…)
  • Evaluation of scientific projects, thesis and postdocs’ proposals, and HDR (defence committees).
  • Contribution to the recruitment of researchers and engineers (hiring committees).
  • Contribution to the strategy of French research institutes within the framework of committees of partner organizations, participation in foresight.
  • Strengthen research-innovation-support for public policies interactions in the above-mentioned fields

Required Knowledge, skills, and characteristics

  • Level of training: Doctorate (with HDR for French nationals)
  • Professional experience: Practices in the research environment and research management; Experience in the oceanographic field; International experience

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education and Research environment (ESR)
  • Scientific legitimacy (doctorate, HDR for French applications, publications)
  • Legitimacy in terms of scientific management on a European scale
