TITLE: SWEEP Assistant (Temporary/Part-time)
REPORTS TO: Sr. Coordinator – Volunteer & Outreach
LOCATION: Ossining, NY / HYBRID - Up to 6 days TOTAL required in the office
POSITION SUMMARY
Riverkeeper seeks a Sweep Assistant to support the coordination of our annual day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries, the Riverkeeper Sweep. The 14th annual Riverkeeper Sweep is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025 and will bring thousands of volunteers together along hundreds of miles of shoreline from New York City to the Adirondacks, where volunteers will clean up local parks and shorelines, remove invasive species, and plant native trees and grasses. The Sweep Assistant will report to the Senior Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Timeline of work:
February 10-May 3, 2025
- Create & maintain Eventbrite pages for approximately 150 Sweep sites
- Run and distribute registration reports to site leaders
- Recruit volunteers through community calendar postings and direct outreach to volunteer groups/community organizations
- Assist the Senior Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator with materials creation, data management, mailings, e-blasts, and email
- Respond to inquiries about the program and provide logistical and organizing support to Sweep Leaders
- Create promotional content (e.g.: blogs, social media posts)
- Organize with Sweep Leaders who are interested in developing stewardship projects outside of Sweep Day as part of our expanded year-round Sweep program
Sweep Day (Saturday, May 3, 2025)
- Will be available to visit select morning Sweep projects
- 11am-7pm will call Sweep Leaders & collect data from cleanup projects
May 3 - June 20, 2025
- Collect project results from Sweep Leaders via phone calls and emails
- Analyze and chart Sweep data
- Assist with writing the Sweep blog post
- Transfer Sweep registrant information onto Google Sheets for Raiser’s Edge importing
EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

- Strong communication skills and precise attention to detail
- Experience with event, project, and/or volunteer management
- High proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite
- Enthusiasm for the Riverkeeper mission and for helping the team reach its goals for Sweep 2025
- Highly collaborative and able to work with a team of dedicated Development professionals
- Reliable and flexible with a strong ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
- Have a personal cell phone that can be used for Riverkeeper calls
- Licensed and insured driver with access to a vehicle required for Sweep Day
OTHER EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
HOURS
This temporary, part-time position will require up to 25 hours per week.
COMPENSATION
Base salary range: $17- $20 per hour commensurate with experience.
Hired candidate must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
