Hefring Engineering, an ocean engineering startup, is seeking a Testing Technician to join our team. In partnership with key customers, Hefring Engineering has developed a single-person deployable, scalable glider to increase the accessibility of critical oceanographic data, helping to broaden our understandings of the world's oceans. As a Testing Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the development and testing of the vehicle in the lab, dockside, on the lake, and in the ocean. This new technology will revolutionize our understanding of the world’s oceans by enabling a significant increase in the density of ocean glider measurements through cost reduction, ease of use, and simplified operations. As a Testing Technician, you will play an essential role in ensuring the success of our development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support the assembly and testing of prototype ocean gliders
  • Conduct tests on existing and new production ocean gliders to validate their performance and ensure customer delivery readiness
  • Perform troubleshooting and failure analysis of ocean gliders
  • Document all testing procedures and results
  • Confer with engineers to resolve functional failures
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify improvements to the design and production processes of ocean gliders
  • Maintain test equipment and ensure that it is calibrated and in good working order
  • Develop and maintain testing protocols to ensure consistent and reliable results
  • Associate’s degree in electrical/electronic manufacturing, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field
  • 4 years of experience in a testing or laboratory environment
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to conduct work comfortably and independently on a boat in the ocean or on a lake, in varying weather conditions
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow testing procedures carefully
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a laboratory environment and as part of a larger team in a fast-paced development organization.
