GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is a foundation under public law jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany (90%) and the State of Schleswig-Holstein (10%). It is one of the internationally leading institutions in the field of marine research.
Through our research and our commitment to the transfer of knowledge and technology, we contribute significantly to the preservation of the function and protection of the ocean for future generations. In the Research Division 2, the Geomicrobiology Research Group investigates the interactions between microorganisms and geochemical processes, particularly on the seafloor. The focus is on how microbial activities influence environmental processes and how environmental conditions shape the composition and function of microbial communities. The findings are incorporated into the development of innovative biotechnological applications in which microorganisms and their biocatalysts help address current challenges in environmental and offshore energy technologies. Our research ranges from coastal systems to the deep sea and combines field studies with modern molecular biological, biogeochemical and experimental methods.

Researcher (m/f/d) in Geomicrobiology – Research Assistance and Project Management
Job Description:
- Support the head of the Geomicrobiology Research Group in planning, acquisitiomanagement and reporting of third-party funded research projects
- Assist in the scientific documentation and preparation of project reports
- Coordinate with project partners as well as internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to the administrative and organizational tasks of the research group
Qualification:
Required:
- Completed university degree (Master's degree or equivalent)
- Background in marine sciences, microbiology, or a related discipline and/or Knowledge of renewable offshore energy technologies such as offshore wind farms or electrolysis systems for hydrogen production,
- Very good written and spoken German and English
Desirable:
- Experience in scientific project management or project coordination is an advantage
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a structured and reliable manner
- Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications

This is a fixed-term position for 2 years, with the option of extension if project funding is successfully secured. The fixed term is based on Section § 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG.
Subject to meeting the relevant requirements, compensation is provided up to pay grade E 13 (TVöD-Bund). The regular weekly work schedule is 50% of that of a full-time employee, with the option to increase it to 100% if project funding is successfully secured. The position cannot be split; flexible work schedules are generally possible.
