GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is a foundation under public law jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany (90%) and the State of Schleswig-Holstein (10%). It is one of the internationally leading institutions in the field of marine research.

Through our research and our commitment to the transfer of knowledge and technology, we contribute significantly to the preservation of the function and protection of the ocean for future generations. As part of the EU BioGeoSea project, the MEMENTO database for nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) data from the ocean is to be expanded and adapted to international requirements for oceanographic databases.

The research unit Chemical Oceanography of the research division 2: Marine Biogeochemistry is offering a position as a

for the operation and expansion of the MEMENTO database

starting as soon as possible.

Job Description

  • Processing and provision of biogeochemical data sets for MEMENTO
  • Entering new data sets into MEMEMTO
  • Improving the functionality of MEMENTO
  • Publication of the MEMENTO data set

Qualification

Required

  • Completed degree (M.Sc.) or doctorate in marine sciences or a related discipline

Desirable

  • Experience in operating databases
  • Experience in handling biogeochemical data sets
  • Good command of the English language
  • Willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment

The position is available for 1.5 years. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a full-time position and the position can be split.
