The staff unit Early Career Support and Personnel Development focuses on two core areas: The Early Career Support accompanies doctoral researchers, postdocs, and associated researchers on their career paths. It supports their professional and personal development through structured programs, targeted training opportunities, individual counseling, and mentoring formats. The general Personnel Development offers all employees and managers a portfolio of consulting services, personnel development tools, and further training opportunities.

Advisor (m/f/d)

for Early Career Researcher Support

starting at the earliest possible date.

Job Description

  • Creation and implementation of concepts to support the entire employee life cycle for the target group of doctoral researchers
  • Identifying relevant support and qualification measures for the target group to acquire academic and interdisciplinary skills
  • Organization and implementation of information and training events
  • Providing individual support and active career counseling throughout the qualification phase and during the transition to the next stage of the academic career
  • Representation of GEOMAR in relevant networks
  • Close, trust-based collaboration with representatives of the target group, and active promotion of their visibility within GEOMAR
  • Implementation of quality assurance measures (monitoring, evaluation) and integration of the findings into the team’s ongoing work
  • Reporting and further project work within the team
  • Monitoring of forward-looking trends (e.g., developments in academia, generational shifts)

Qualification

  • Completed academic university education (Master's degree or equivalent)
  • Experience with the conception, implementation and evaluation of support measures or counseling and training offers in the scientific environment
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and communication skills to develop services for the target group
  • Excellent German and English language skills (oral and written)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree, preferably in natural sciences
  • Personal experience in research and academic teaching or in national/international research collaborations
  • Experience in event organization and/or moderation
  • Experience in project management
  • Affinity for topics related to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity
  • High level of personal and intercultural competence, ideally experience in systemic counseling
  • Service-oriented personality with a sensitive and appreciative communication style in a multinational environment

This is an offer for a permanent position. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a part-time position according to 50 % of a full-time equivalent. The position cannot be split, flexible working time models are generally possible.
