The research unit "Chemical Oceanography" of the research department 2 "Marine Biogeochemistry" offers a position

project management (m/f/d)

for the ElbeXtreme consortium

funded by the BMBF and starting as soon as possible and ending September 30th, 2025.

Description of the project

Extreme events are considered a major risk factor for coastal ecosystems and human communities. Their frequency and intensity are increasing due to global climate change, while coastal population density is increasing, coastal ecosystems are changing and societies are becoming more sensitive to hazards from the sea and rivers/estuaries. The main objective of ElbeExtreme is to assess the impacts of extreme events in the marine Elbe and the adjacent North Sea on ecosystems and ecosystem services. The project is part of the MareXtreme mission of the German Marine Research Alliance (https://www.allianz-meeresforschung.de/en/news/third-dam-research-mission-launched).

Job description / Tasks

The candidate will be part of the ElbeXtreme consortium with 14 partners from industry, research institutes, universities and governmental organizations, and also the MareXtreme Mission consisting of four large consortia.

Your tasks

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Organising project meetings and monitoring progress on deliverables provided by ElbeXtreme
  • Organising administration and communication within and outside the ElbeXtreme project (including DAM and MareXtreme partners, and ElbeXtreme stakeholders)
  • Logistical preparation and follow-up of trips
  • Set-up and maintenance of the ElbeXtreme project website
  • Adaptation and optimisation of data formats of new data from ElbeXtreme. Submission of data.
  • Writing reports for ElbeXtreme (factsheets, interim reports)
  • Preparation and realisation of transfer and outreach activities

Your profile:

  • University degree (at least Masters) in natural or communication sciences or a comparable qualification
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • good communication skills in German and English
  • Confident handling of Windows Office

Further desirable are:

  • Experience in scientific communication in the social and/or natural sciences, ideally related to climate research
  • Graphics skills (e.g. Photoshop, PowerPoint)

The position is limited until September 30th, 2025. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class 13 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a part-time position according to 50 % of a full-time equivalent. Flexible working time models are generally possible.
