GCT is the only UK registered charity focussed solely on conserving the Galapagos Islands, partnering with Ecuadorian authorities, NGOs, local communities and researchers. The Board currently has ten Trustees and is seeking a new Trustee as part of succession planning to help ensure it remains a driving force for nature conservation. Board members attend four Board meetings per year (approx. 2–3 hours), aiming for two in-person in London, plus four committee meetings per year and involvement in events where possible. The role of a Trustee: work with the Chair and Board to determine strategy, ensure delivery of charitable objectives and legal responsibilities, use specific skills to support decision-making, act as ambassadors, and provide sound, balanced, and constructive challenge. What we’re looking for: someone who can bring knowledge of Ecuador and its culture, and support registration and ongoing requirements as an international NGO in Ecuador. Skills of interest include: understanding of Ecuador and culture, responsibilities of company directors/charity trustees, communications/marketing strategy, charity accounting, strategy development and implementation, risk management and controls, and compliance with legal regulations in Ecuador. Process: shortlisted candidates speak with the CEO, then meet at least one current Trustee; the successful individual will join initially and be appointed officially at the AGM in May/June 2026. Diversity: applications encouraged from underrepresented groups; appointments made on merit, with positive action where appropriate. Terms of appointment: unremunerated (reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses reimbursed); quarterly Board and Committee meetings plus an annual strategy session; some mentoring/advice outside meetings; some meetings expected in person; Trustees elected at the AGM for a three-year term, renewable for a further three-year term, up to a maximum of nine consecutive years. Closing date for applications: 31 October 2025.
