We are seeking qualified engineers to join our team of innovators and tinkerers who are working together to revolutionize marine electrification!
Company Overview
Flux Marine is a high-growth marine technology start-up that is designing electric outboard motors from the ground up without using legacy combustion engine parts. This allows our motors to maximize efficiency and minimize maintenance without compromising performance vs gas engines. Our technology has many applications including commercial, recreational, yacht tender, and defense markets.
Job Overview
Flux Marine is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer to join our fast-paced powertrain team that is working with cutting edge marine electric propulsion technology. This senior-level position will be responsible for tasks such as battery pack and monitoring system design, power distribution module and power management printed circuit board (PCB) development and prototyping and will contribute to the development of an integrated motor controller and on-board-charger electronics.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Apply aspects of digital and analog hardware design for custom, application specific, integrated power electronics to consolidate core components.
- Convert high level board requirements into a board design concept; defining architecture, I/O’s, power dissipation/loss and key components.
- Management of design layout constraints and objectives, part placement and assembly drawings review.
- Produce schematics and documentation to support electronic design projects.
- Develop electronics testing fixtures and apparatuses for end stage validation.
- Prepare bill of materials, including part qualifications.
- Circuit simulations (SPICE, Hyperlynx) as required.
- Various design analyses (worst cases, FMECA, signal integrity, power integrity).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Advanced PCB design and embedded systems development, from initial concept through contracted board production.
- High voltage, DC battery systems and supporting electronics. This includes precharge, cell voltage management, high current contactors, and isolation monitoring devices.
- Permanent magnet, alternating current (PMAC) motor integration or design.
- PMAC motor controller, power stage and supporting microcontroller circuit design.
- On board charging (AC to DC) and power inversion (DC to AC) circuits.
- Fabrication of printed circuit board prototype assemblies, passive filter circuits, and electronics testing fixtures with creation of supporting procedures, documentation, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Electromagnetic susceptibility, interference mitigation, conducted emissions and associated testing procedures.
- Advanced testing equipment and methodologies to meet constant and transient voltage and EMI disturbance requirements.
- Electronic circuits and instrumentation such as oscilloscope, waveform generators and electronic loads.
- Device certification and industry standards, procedures, and government regulations including UL qualifications and military specifications.
- Attention to detail to ensure that designs are accurate, reliable, and safe.
- Effective communication, time management and team collaboration skills
- Software proficiency in CAD, such as SolidWorks; Electronic Circuit Design Automation (EDA) such as Altium, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, EAGLE, Cadence Allegro, Draw.IO, Visio, or other schematic/diagram software, LTSpice or similar modeling software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required, Masters or Ph.D preferred, or greater than 10 years’ experience in a relevant Electrical Engineering field.
- A minimum of 5 years in a relevant electrical engineering field.
