THE OPPORTUNITY

The Project Manager (PM) will support a team that enjoys a diverse scope of work. They will be responsible for research, development, and execution of work plans on traceability and counter-IUU fishing including internal/external communications and administrative functions. The ideal candidate will have strong personal and interpersonal communication skills, flexibility, superior project management experience, and a passion for ocean stewardship. For the Traceability Division, work plan goals are threefold: 1) to create resources and recommendations that help the seafood industry improve supply chain traceability and reduce the risk that seafood products are associated with IUU fishing; 2) to facilitate discussions between key players to find novel solutions to traceability and IUU fishing challenges; and 3) to communicate progress and updates to diverse sets of NGOs, industry, government, and other stakeholders. The PM will provide the necessary support to ensure FishWise is best positioned to maintain its strong collaborative relationships with external groups while simultaneously advancing FishWise’s mission and strategic plan.

Reporting: This position reports to the Project Director in the Traceability Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with global experts and partners to create novel traceability and counter-IUU fishing solutions for the seafood industry and other diverse audiences Research and curate resources (including grant deliverables) to stay informed on traceability and IUU fishing and synthesize important topics for various stakeholders Assist in the communication of progress and next steps on traceability and counter-IUU fishing work plans, project awareness, and advocacy to a variety of audiences and collaborators via email, conference calls, blogs, social media, and webinars Research, draft, and/or format white papers, toolkits, policy briefs, and other analyses for the seafood industry or target audiences; review and summarize technical documents (legislation, media stories, and reports) on traceability and IUU fishing Become an expert over time on seafood traceability and counter-IUU fishing legislation, challenges, and current approaches Support, attend and/or lead events for the Traceability Division (conferences, meetings, webinars, etc.), including preparation of materials for presentations and events Organize logistics for conference calls, webinars, and in-person meetings; record and distribute minutes including outcomes, decisions, assignments, pending action items, and due dates Assist in budget tracking and accounting against contracts and grants Provide administrative support to the Traceability Division, including but not limited to scheduling meetings, assisting in the communication of progress and next steps on FishWise traceability and counter-IUU fishing work plans, and maintaining knowledge and project management systems at FishWise Coordinate across teams at FishWise, providing consistent and clear internal communications Provide backstopping to other team members (and divisions), as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent experience Basic understanding and the desire to learn more about: fisheries and aquaculture production, traceability, the counter-IUU fishing landscape, business and supply chain operations, seafood sustainability criteria, principles of social responsibility, and market-based conservation Excellent project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, organize work flows and materials, manage multiple and simultaneous work streams, and establish and maintain project scope Excellent verbal and written communication skills, copy-editing and proofreading skills; ability to strategically synthesize and convey complex ideas to targeted audiences Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing and results- oriented environment Self-starter, motivated, and able to work with limited oversight Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team Demonstrated attention to detail, flexibility, resourcefulness, and creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Mac OS; and Zoom; ability to quickly learn new technologies, CRM, and project management software Open to giving and receiving feedback to support a productive and positive team environment Ability to maintain a flexible mindset, adapting as needed to meet project or organization goals, including working on projects to support other Divisions or initiatives across FishWise Innovative mindset, open to pursuing business development and funding opportunities that contribute to the financial security of the organization Dedication and passion for the stewardship of the oceans and the FishWise mission

HOURS AND COMPENSATION

This is a full-time position. FishWise is headquartered in Santa Cruz, CA. This position has the option to be fully in-office, remote, or partially remote. Project Manager salary range: $63,456-$67,000. Selected candidates will be placed in the beginning of the salary range and have the opportunity to advance based on satisfactory performance and time in the position. Competitive benefit package including, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, parental leave, flex-time, and matching retirement contributions. Work hours: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (PST or EST, with flexible scheduling options contingent on supervisor’s approval). Evening and weekend work will sometimes be required. Occasional business travel and personal transportation may be required.
