FishWise is seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented, and organized Communications Associate to support FishWise’s day-to-day communications across writing, social media, website updates, events, internal coordination, and content management.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this regular, full-time, remote position will help ensure organizational communications accurately reflect FishWise’s mission, strategic priorities, and programmatic work through the development, coordination, and distribution of internal and external communications materials.
This position is fully remote, with occasional in-person meetings as needed.
The expected pay range for this position is $42,400 to $53,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.

The Communications Associate is a hands-on, associate-level role with strong potential for growth, and is ideal for someone who enjoys both creating clear, engaging communications content and organizing the systems and processes that support effective communications work.
This position will operate with guidance and supervision while developing increasing ownership over routine communications tasks. The Communications Associate is expected to draft and edit with attention to clarity, accuracy, tone, and audience; follow established processes; seek input on unfamiliar or technical topics; and flag questions related to partner mentions, funder references, sensitive topics, or technical claims.
Success in this role means becoming a reliable communications partner who can keep core communications moving, manage routine content systems, draft clean materials, and help FishWise tell a clearer story about its work and impact. Over time, the Communications Associate may take on broader responsibilities, such as drafting insight pieces, leading social media campaigns, managing portions of the editorial calendar, or supporting event communications with greater independence.
Draft, edit, proofread, and format communications materials across FishWise’s external and internal channels.
Support newsletters, Monthly ED Updates, blog posts, website copy, social media posts, event materials, and partner-facing content.
Translate program updates into clear, accessible communications that reflect FishWise’s role, impact, and strategic priorities.
Coordinate technical review with Program Leads as needed.
Support FishWise’s LinkedIn and Instagram presence, including 2–3 posts per week.
Draft, schedule, and repurpose content tied to programs, partnerships, impact stories, events, staff expertise, and sector-relevant moments.
Assist with website updates, including blogs, impact stories, staff updates, event information, and approved resources.
Maintain basic digital assets, including Canva templates, graphics, photos, approved language, and social media materials.
Help maintain the communications calendar across newsletters, blogs, social posts, ED updates, events, and partner moments.
Manage the Monthly Content Intake System and follow up with staff to gather updates, milestones, events, and story ideas.
Connect internal team successes and program developments to external storytelling opportunities.
Support FishWise’s Storybank by organizing project stories, partner examples, proof points, and impact narratives.
Support communications planning for priority initiatives, like the India Shrimp Project.
Provide communications support for major industry events and conferences, including Seafood Expo North America, Seafood Expo Global, and other relevant convenings.
Draft pre-event, live-event, and post-event communications.Support speaker promotion, partner amplification, event recaps, and collection of photos, quotes, and takeaways from staff.
Help staff understand communications priorities, deadlines, and content needs.
Track communications deliverables, organize review processes, and help keep work moving on schedule.
Maintain shared communications tools and resources, including templates, messaging, calendars, and approved materials.
Provide communications-related support to the Executive Director and organizational priorities as needed.
Bachelor’s degree preferred and 1-2 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in communications, marketing, journalism, nonprofit communications, environmental advocacy, seafood sustainability, or a related field.
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
Experience supporting social media channels, especially LinkedIn and Instagram.
Comfort working with content calendars, trackers, and project management systems.
Basic design skills and experience with tools such as Canva.
Experience with website updates or content management systems preferred.
Ability to gather information from multiple people or programs and turn it into clear communications content.
Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and comfort working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Familiarity with CRM, email marketing, or newsletter platforms preferred.
Basic AI literacy and interest in using AI tools responsibly to support drafting, organization, research, and workflow efficiency.
Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability, responsible seafood, or related mission-driven work preferred.
This is a fully remote position based in the United States and is primarily performed in a standard home office environment, with occasional in-person meetings as needed.
