The purpose of this position is to provide technical writing, editing, and advisory services to NOAA's Logistics Operations Division (LOD).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing technical writing services for policies, procedures, and documents across all platforms
  • Managing, coordinating, and analyzing correspondence and communications functions for LOD, including policies, procedures, and documents for property (inventory and finance), fleet management, printing and publications, and transit subsidy
  • Developing/writing text and propose edits to current policies, procedures, and documents
  • Providing a biweekly status report via Excel on the status of assigned projects
  • Researching, writing, and prioritizing policies across the Logistics Operations Divisions with regard to procedures and documents for publication on the LOD website, dissemination to LOD clients and to other personnel within the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC)
  • Collaborating with LOD management, SMEs, authors, and other team representatives to compile feedback and produce a final publishable document
  • Ensuring receipt of deliverables are timely
  • Participating in client meetings to identify required changes to documentation
  • Ensuring new and updated policies across LOD are cohesive and consistent with relevant DOC policies

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance
  • At least four years of experience in technical and/or professional writing
  • Experience with writing/editing policies
  • Experience with scientific agency writing
  • The ability to understand and interpret technical material
  • The ability to assess the political & institutional environment
  • The ability to analyze and relate complex variables to a specific policy issue and frame feasible options
  • The ability to represent the organization and present controversial issues and recommendations orally and in writing
  • The ability to research, collect, analyze, select, and suitably present information about different logistical subjects

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal business hours
  • Work is to be performed at the Silver Spring Metro Center Campus (SSMC) in Silver Spring, MD
  • Travel to other nearby offices may be required, in which case the employee will be given 48 hours' notice
  • On-site federal contractors, in federal buildings or on federal lands must comply with CDC guidelines with respect to wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and other public health measures.
