The Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) is Alabama's marine education and research institution, established in 1971. Located on the eastern tip of Dauphin Island, surrounded by Mobile Bay, the Mississippi Sound, and the northern Gulf of Mexico, it provides an ideal setting for marine science activities. DISL collaborates with 23 Alabama colleges and universities, offering graduate and undergraduate studies year-round. Its research programs encompass various fields including biogeochemistry, oceanography, and ecology, with faculty conducting research both locally and internationally. DISL also engages in extensive K-12 education, professional development, and public outreach through its Discovery Hall Programs and public aquarium, the Estuarium.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Stranding Biologist located on Dauphin Island, AL. The Stranding Biologist will handle daily tasks including conducting field response, processing biological samples, documenting strandings, and performing laboratory analyses. Additional responsibilities include collaborating on research projects, maintaining equipment, and contributing to public education and outreach initiatives.
