Continental Shelf Associates, Inc. (CSA) is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team in our Stuart, Florida office. Established in 1971, CSA is a multidisciplinary U.S. corporation dedicated to the ocean industry worldwide, serving the offshore oil and gas, submarine telecommunications, scientific, and government markets.

The Staff Accountant will support day-to-day accounting operations and the month-end close process for the parent company and multiple subsidiary entities. This position requires extensive knowledge of cost accounting, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Perform monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliations and maintain supporting general ledger schedules.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end close and the preparation of financial reports and statements.
  • Apply cost accounting principles to track, reconcile, and analyze project costs, including labor, subcontractor costs, equipment, and other direct expenses.
  • Review cost coding and allocations to ensure expenses are recorded accurately to the appropriate projects and accounts.
  • Prepare job cost reports, investigate cost variances, and work with project managers to resolve discrepancies and support accurate project reporting.
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations and assist with recording transactions among multiple entities.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
  • Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and sales and use tax reporting.
  • Review general ledger activity, investigate unusual transactions, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and provide supporting documentation for audit requests.
  • Collaborate with accounting staff and other departments and assist with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of cost accounting is required, including job costing, direct and indirect cost allocation, project cost analysis, and variance analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Two to four years of accounting experience preferred, with hands-on experience in cost accounting or project accounting.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and basic U.S. GAAP principles.
  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, and analysis of large data sets.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting software; Acumatica experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and work with limited supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Compensation

Salary is dependent on experience.

Position Type and Expected Hours

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.
