CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), part of APEM Group, is seeking a Commercial Operations Financial Director to support its U.S. and Foreign operations. This role serves as a senior finance partner to the CSA leadership team and APEM corporate finance organization, providing commercial insight, financial governance, corporate reporting support and strategic support in a growing marine environmental consultancy business.

The Commercial Finance Lead is responsible for driving financial performance, strengthening forecasting and reporting frameworks, and enabling data-informed decision-making across the business. Working closely with the CSA CEO, President, finance team, and APEM Group leadership, this role supports sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and complete alignment with Group financial standards and Reporting regiment as defined by APEM Group Financial Leadership.

This position is suited to a commercially focused finance leader with strong analytical capability, experience in professional services or project-based environments, and the ability to translate financial data into strategic insight.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Performance

  • Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and long-range financial planning aligned with CSA’s capabilities, objectives and APEM Group priorities.
  • Provide clear analysis of revenue, gross margin, and profitability performance against budget and forecast.
  • Enhance revenue visibility and forecasting accuracy through structured pipeline analysis and scenario modeling.
  • Inform working capital performance, including analysis of Accounts Receivable (AR) and Work in Progress (WIP), in collaboration with Corporate Finance.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including utilization, productivity, margin performance, and pipeline health.

Commercial Strategy and Business Partnering

  • Work with the CSA CEO and senior leadership to provide financial insight supporting pricing strategy, proposal development, and commercial decision-making.
  • Provide financial guidance in line with Delegation of Authority (DOA) requirements, including recruitment, capital expenditure, and contract review
  • Support robust business cases for capital investments and strategic initiatives, including post-investment return analysis.
  • Support strategic account performance analysis, identifying revenue growth opportunities and margin optimization strategies.
  • Strengthen financial literacy across the organization by translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insights.

Reporting, Systems, and Governance

  • Oversee monthly reporting to APEM Group, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with APEM Group standards and APEM CFO guidance.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools (Excel and Power BI) to support scalable, data-driven decision-making.
  • Partner with APEM Group FP&A and Finance leadership to ensure timely reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with financial policies.
  • Support acquisition integration efforts by embedding consistent financial processes, reporting frameworks, and governance standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement in data governance, reporting efficiency, and financial controls.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Serve as a core member of the CSA Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning and risk-based discussions.
  • Foster strong collaboration between CSA and APEM Group finance teams to share best practices and enhance cohesion.
  • Support the development of a high-performing finance capability within CSA.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement across the business.
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) policies and contribute to a safe and compliant working environment.

Required Qualifications

  • CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred.
  • Significant experience in financial leadership or commercial finance roles within a professional services or project-based organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and full P&L accountability.
  • Strong financial modeling, scenario planning, and analytical capability.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience developing financial dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Experience translating financial data into strategic insight for senior leadership.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting business transformation, growth initiatives, or organizational change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within environmental consulting, engineering, offshore energy, or related sectors.
  • Experience working in a matrixed or high-growth organization.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or post-acquisition integration.
  • Experience with ERP systems and Power BI reporting tools.
  • Experience engaging directly with clients on commercial or contractual matters.
