Marine Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Suva, Fiji

The position will provide technical and related support for a conservation-related program or project and work under the direction of senior technical staff to carry out day-to-day technical and field activities. The role involves assisting with field monitoring activities, collecting and managing technical data, and preparing reports. The position will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to support data collection and information sharing, and will support learning events, including conferences/ workshops, meetings, and information sharing events. Additionally, the role as directed will manage program documents, contracts, and agreements, and maintain technical files and archive systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Marine Program Manager on all activities related to the Lau Seascape Program, such as:

  • Stakeholder analysis
  • Biological assessments
  • Socio-economic studies
  • Community awareness and education activities
  • Community engagement and planning
  • Provide field support in the monitoring of the implemented activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Typical office environment.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in rural settings for extended periods.
  • May need to work extended hours as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 2 to 4 years of related work experience, preferably in the conservation, NGO, or advocacy arena.
  • Technical aptitude and ability to understand and interpret technical information and data.
  • Attention to detail and good proofreading skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detailed oriented and able to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Service focus. Courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under the supervisor's direction.
  • Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine science or related field.
  • Fluent in the iTaukei language with a good understanding of traditional protocol application.
  • Experience in technical and field monitoring activities.
  • Excellent writing skills in the English language.
  • Able to spend extended time out in the field.
  • Ability to commute between the Cl-Fiji HQ and field sites.
