Six-month positions available on a rotating basis. The Animal Husbandry Internship provides experience assisting the Animal Care Team with husbandry for 100+ species (alligators, snakes, turtles, fish, invertebrates), life support systems maintenance, handling, training, and enrichment. Interns support educational outreach, assist in training, handling and presenting ambassador animals, and serve as Touch Tank interpreter. $300 bi-weekly cost of living stipend and dorm accommodation, including laundry, provided. Essential duties include routine husbandry and maintenance of indoor/outdoor exhibits, care of ambassador animals, life support troubleshooting/maintenance, assistance with training/enrichment, record keeping and data entry, routine cleanings, and potential advanced tasks (handling/training, specimen collecting, life support or enrichment design, Wildlife Hospital support). Education/Experience: BS/BA in science or related field, strong interest in professional animal husbandry, ability to interact with diverse audiences, some animal care experience required, aquarium maintenance/plumbing preferred, environmental science/ecology background preferred. Work requirements: collaborative team member, willing to handle non-venomous snakes, excellent communication, independent/time management, able to work weekends/holidays/early mornings/evenings, lift 60 lbs, work outdoors in hot, humid conditions.
