Are you interested in how financial results are communicated, analyzed, and reported within a large organization?

As a Financial Reporting Co-op Student, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience supporting the team responsible for preparing Nova Scotia Power's annual financial reporting and disclosure requirements.

During the Winter 2027 Co-op term, you'll work alongside experienced finance professionals, contributing to real financial reporting projects while developing a strong foundation in accounting, audit, and reporting practices. You'll collaborate with teams across the business to gather and validate financial information, support year-end reporting activities, and learn how accurate financial reporting helps inform business decisions and maintain stakeholder confidence.

This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing a career in accounting, finance, or professional reporting, particularly those considering a future CPA designation. You'll gain exposure to industry-leading financial systems, strengthen your technical skills, and see firsthand how accounting concepts are applied in a real business environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the preparation of annual financial reporting requirements, including financial statements, Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), Annual Information Forms, regulatory reporting packages, and pension financial statements.
  • Assist with gathering, validating, and organizing financial information from various business areas.
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Create and maintain documentation to support internal control and audit requirements.
  • Follow established reporting processes and checklists to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with finance team members and business partners to support reporting activities and deadlines.
  • Gain exposure to accounting and disclosure management software, including Oracle Fusion and Certent Disclosure Management.
  • Support additional finance projects and initiatives as required.

Who you are:

We're looking for a motivated student who enjoys problem-solving, working with data, and learning how finance supports business success. You will be a strong candidate if you:

  • Are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Have completed at least the second year of your program.
  • Have an interest in financial reporting, auditing, corporate finance, or accounting processes.
  • Are comfortable using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Have strong attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Are able to organize information, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate professionally and collaborate well with others.
  • Have previous experience supporting an accounting or finance function (considered an asset).
