The Opportunity:

Emera Inc. is currently seeking a Co-op, Financial Reporting student for the Winter 2027 term (Jan 4 – April 30, 2027) with our Corporate External Reporting team. This 16-week opportunity provides hands-on experience in financial reporting, consolidations, and quarterly reporting processes within a dynamic corporate environment.

In this role, you will gain valuable exposure to financial statement preparation, management discussion and analysis (MD&A), consolidation activities, and corporate reporting processes while working closely with finance professionals across the organization.

What you’ll do:

As a co-op student, you will contribute to key accounting processes and support the Corporate External Reporting team. This includes:

  • Contribute to the preparation of sections of Emera's quarterly consolidated financial statements and Management's Discussion & Analysis (MD&A)
  • Participate in month-end consolidation activities, including intercompany reconciliations and variance analysis reporting
  • Assist with quarterly reporting deliverables, including government reports and coordination with internal stakeholders to gather and provide information
  • Support financial reporting and disclosure processes to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Complete ad hoc projects and analysis as required to support the Financial Reporting team
  • Assist with other routine and special reporting initiatives throughout the work term

Work term outcomes:

By the end of your work term, you will have:

  • Developed an intermediate understanding of financial consolidations and corporate reporting processes
  • Gained practical experience preparing components of quarterly financial statements and MD&A
  • Strengthened your analytical, technical, and communication skills within a professional finance environment
  • Built knowledge of the corporate structure and operations of Emera and its affiliated companies

Who you are:

You're a motivated and detail-oriented student in your 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting, looking to develop your financial reporting knowledge and gain meaningful experience in a collaborative corporate environment.

You bring:

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • A high level of motivation, attention to detail, and analytical thinking
  • A sharp eye for detail and a passion for learning
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing individual responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Previous accounting experience considered an asset, but not required
