We are currently seeking a Manager, Dam Safety, to join our Power Production – Hydro, Wind & Solar team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Plant Manager of Hydro, Wind & Solar, you will spearhead strategic dam safety initiatives and drive comprehensive risk management efforts across Nova Scotia Power's infrastructure.
As Manager, Dam Safety you will be responsible for ensuring that emerging risks related Nova Scotia Power’s dams are identified and appropriately mitigated. This role involves providing advice to Nova Scotia Power’s senior management team and the Hydro & Wind operations on matters related to dam safety and of the public safety around dams and hydro systems.
Primary accountabilities include:
Develop Dam Safety Team such that responsibilities are clearly defined and executed on
Accountable for maintaining operating budget, compliance with capital governance requirements, compliance with safety and environmental programs
Oversight and execution of NS Power’s Dam Safety and Public Safety around Dams programs. This includes accountability for the ongoing assessment of the condition and safety of dam structures by means of monitoring, surveillance, dam safety inspections and dam safety reviews.
Secondary accountabilities include:
Accountable for the completion of dam safety reviews and flood studies, including managing consultants and providing expertise related to dam safety practices.
Accountable for the oversight and maintenance of Emergency Preparedness Plans, including the planning and facilitation of emergency exercises and exercise critique.
Participate in dam inspections, commenting on dam inspection reports, and maintaining a documented deficiency list for all dam structures.
Keeping informed of Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety Guidelines and requirements. Keeping informed of industry developments, standards, regulations, and codes.
Contributing to a work environment based on mutual trust and respect while carrying out all work in a safe and effective manner.
The successful candidate will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under the direction of the position by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupation Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. The applicant will be accountable for environmental management system processes and initiatives. You will have an insatiable desire to continuously improve safety performance and drive customer value.
This role will require you to travel to various locations across Nova Scotia for work at Hydro sites and other NSPI locations. You will be expected to manage your own time, traveling outside of regular working hours as required, and occasionally stay overnight. You must be available for emergency after-hour consultation and emergency restoration work.
