Job Description and Duties
Are you looking for a rewarding career working with a dynamic team focusing on fisheries monitoring? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), North Central Region is seeking motivated candidates for a Limited Term Fish and Wildlife Technician opening in the Fisheries Restoration and Reintroduction Unit. The position is located at the North Central Region headquarters in Rancho Cordova.
Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the Limited Term Fish and Wildlife Technician will support the North Yuba River Spring-Run Chinook Salmon Reintroduction Program operations. The incumbent will be responsible for installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of sampling equipment and gear including rotary screw traps, radio receivers, acoustic receivers, hydraulic egg injectors, egg boxes and other sampling equipment; maintenance and repair of vehicles, vessels, and trailers; and assisting in the collect of environmental and biological data as appropriate/needed. May work under the lead of Environmental Scientists.
Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.

Working Conditions
Will work outdoors in all weather conditions, in and around cold and fast-moving water, and on uneven terrain. Will be required to travel to different work locations on the Sacramento River Watershed utilizing a state vehicle. Must possess a valid Driver License. Will regularly drive state vehicles, boats, and trailers. Incumbent may be required to obtain a California Boater Card. Will be required to work weekends and holidays. A uniform and appropriate safety gear will be required to be worn daily. Workspace will be provided in an office/warehouse as necessary and appropriate. This position will be based out of the Rancho Cordova office and will require frequent travel in a state vehicle, to the North Yuba River, near Downieville, CA. NO STATE HOUSING IS AVAILABLE.

Special Requirements
- Ability to swim 50 yards and stay afloat for at least five minutes; maintain good physical condition; elevate 40 pounds; work outdoors in various weather conditions; work in and around water (including wading and snorkeling).
