Job Description and Duties

Are you an accounting professional with a passion for wildlife conservation? Consider joining the Accounting Services Branch as we support the programs carrying out the mission of the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Under general direction of the Chief of the Accounting Services Branch (ASB) (an Accounting Administrator III), the incumbent will plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the accounting activities for the Accounting Support (AS) & Cash Receipts (CR) Section which includes the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) Unit and the Cash Receipts Unit for the Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). As ASB Section Chief, the incumbent provides leadership, guidance, and coordination of activities to ensure that the goals, objectives, and mission of the section are achieved. Responsibilities consist of supervising and training accounting staff in their respective duties, including but are not limited to deposits, remittances, reconciliation, front desk duties, review and approve confidential claims, transaction reclassifications; coordinates with other divisions, departments, and control agencies, to resolves the most complex issues with the State Controller’s Office (SCO) and Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal); prepares the more complex reports for management, cross trains staff and directly assists other managers and supervisors in ASB.

The position is headquartered in the Natural Resources Building located in downtown Sacramento. The office is right next to Light Rail for an easy commute and features ergonomic furniture, panoramic downtown views, a free employee gym, a cafeteria and bodega, and adjacent childcare.

This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.

Working Conditions

Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. Work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Overtime may be required and limited time-off during the year-end Financial Statement period. Required to attend offsite meetings using private or public transportation, or other means of transportation such as walking between locations. Headquartered in a high-rise building. This position offers the possibility of a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs.
