Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is seeking a highly skilled Analyst III to serve as an expert in HR policy development, statewide compliance, and critical administrative programs. This position performs the most complex, sensitive, and specialized analytical work within the Personnel Services Branch and provides expert consultation to Executive Management, Branch Chiefs, Regional Managers, and HR program staff across the state.
This position requires expert-level analytical ability; strong verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of interpreting and applying state laws, rules, and regulations; and the capacity to manage highly sensitive and high-impact programs that directly affect all CDFW employees. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to provide authoritative guidance on complex HR and compliance matters.

This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.

Working Conditions

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting, with artificial light and temperature control. The ability to use a personal computer and telephone is essential. The position requires bending and stooping to retrieve files; walking; occasional light lifting, up to 10 – 15 lbs. Occasional travel may be required.
This position is designated as office-centered with the ability to telework one day per week depending on the incumbent's work performance.
