Blue Economics is a pioneering division of Blue Marine dedicated to reassessing how the ocean is valued and developing sustainable finance mechanisms to support conservation projects.
The Blue Economics Officer will report into the Senior Economist. They will deliver on a broad, dynamic set of unit objectives, including:
• Researching and reading about emerging conservation finance tools and synthesising information for the wider team.
• Contributing to the structuring of innovative sustainable finance mechanisms within Blue Marine projects.
• Engaging with Blue Marine’s project partners around Blue Economics workstreams.
• Supporting the Senior Economist to manage the unit day to day; liaising with external stakeholders, responding to queries about the unit, contributing to writing briefs and proposals, helping to organise travel and events for the unit team.
• Supporting the development of fundraising proposals and completing funding reports, where relevant to the economics unit’s work.
The successful candidate should have the following:
• A passion for nature conservation and changing the world through finance.
• A good team-worker.
• Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with a ‘sleeves-rolled-up’ attitude.
• A proven ability to understand financial tools such as bonds, carbon and nature markets and natural capital assessments.
• Ability to synthesise large volumes of information into headlines.
• Self-motivated and interested to stay up to date on emerging developments within conservation finance, marine policy, and sustainable fisheries.
• Good time management and ability to work to deadlines.
• Strong oral and written communication.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, economics, business, finance, or similar subjects.
• A minimum of one year experience working in economics, finance, business or related field.
Title: Blue Economics Officer
Reporting to: Senior Economist
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum depending on experience and a competitive benefits package.
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
Location: Flexible with a minimum of two days a week in Blue Marine’s office at Somerset House, London.
Contract: One-year fixed term contract.
